A guide to this week's movements in the insurance industry

Ryan Insurance
Ryan Insurance Group has appointed Tom Coe as commercial account executive for the Essex area.

Coe will be responsible for growing new business in the area, offering a wide range of commercial insurance products to small and medium sized businesses.

Coe previously worked for Country Mutual.

THB
THB has appointed Michael Grist as financial planning & projects manager.

Grist will report to THB Group's finance director Rob Wilkinson, assisting with forward-planning initiatives.

He has previously undertaken similar roles for Invensys and international services company, Serco.

Michelle Ruff has been appointed commercial manager for THB's non-motor range of products.

Ruff will be responsible for the internal management of four products - PropertyUK, Motor Trade UK, Encompass and ConstructionUK. She will also be responsible for marketing and commun-ications.

Smart & Cook
David Burnett has been appointed non-executive chairman by Smart & Cook Holdings Group.

Burnett is a partner in TT International and was previously managing director of SBC Warburg's London office.

JR Clare
JR Clare has appointed Paul McBrearty as underwriter and development manager of the personal lines department.

Paul brings with him over 21 years experience gained as a Lloyd's broker.

Finsure
Finsure has made three appointments to its sales team.

Regional sales executives Tom Hart, Mike Greenland and Simon Hunt will be responsible for developing existing and new accounts, and growing the loan book.

Hart previously worked as an account manager at Close Premium Finance and has four years' experience in insurance and over 10 years in the UK service sector. He will be responsible for Finsure's southern region.

Greenland joins Finsure from Aon where he was eSolutions Manager with 20 years' experience in insurance. He will be responsible for the South East.

Hunt has 19 years of experience in broking, most recently with Fehnert Insurance Brokers where he was motor fleet manager. Hunt will be looking after the East Midlands.

Allianz Cornhill
Allianz Cornhill has made three appointments to its commercial team.

Emma McBrearty has been appointed small business operations manager.

Her responsibilities will include defining, implementing and developing the operational strategy for trading the company's small business products.

McBrearty joined the company in October 2002 as an assistant underwriter on the graduate scheme.

Steve Good has been appointed regional underwriting manager for Birmingham.

Good's responsibilities include monitoring the performance of accounts and lines of business within the region and the provision of support for broker business development activities.

Previously employed as an area underwriting manager, Good has 21 years of experience in insurance.

Graeme Durlacher joins as key account manager for the small business team.

Durlacher will provide advice and support to the broker sales teams and will be responsible for the development of new distribution routes.

He was previously a senior business developer, based in the Bristol branch.

Allianz Cornhill has also strengthened its Schemes division with the appointments of Stuart Turner and Logan Steele.

Turner has re-joined Allianz Cornhill Schemes as a new business developer.

He previously worked for Allianz in the mid-1990s and returns from Australia where he managed an online warranty broker and administration system.

Steele joins the management team and will be working closely with key customers to develop additional revenue streams and optimise administrative processes.

Lincoln Financial
Lincoln Financial Group has appointed Keith Robertson as chief underwriter.

He joins Lincoln from Otter Risk Solutions where he was senior underwriting consultant.

Robertson has more than 20 years experience in insurance including posts with Britannic Assurance, Laurentian Life and PPP Lifetime Care where he was underwriting manager.

ascot
Ascot Underwriting has appointed Sir Richard as Dearlove its next chairman.

Dearlove will take over from Lord Prior, who has been chairman since Ascot commenced trading in 2001.

Dearlove, former head of MI6, has links with the industry through his membership of the international advisory board of AIG.

Other

HCML
Health & Case Management (HCML), has appointed Gavin Davies as its sales & marketing director.

Davies, who has also been appointed to HCML's main board, takes up his new role as the business continues to expand and increase its market share throughout the UK.

ARAG
ARAG has appointed Stevie Feeney sales and underwriting technician. Feeney joins from Allianz Cornhill where she was broker underwriter. Her role will be to develop new relationships as well as service existing customers.

Audatex
Audatex UK has announced the appointment of Steven Hames to the position of regional training consultant.

As part of a team of regional training consultants, Hames is responsible for meeting Audatex customers' training requirements. Hames joined Audatex in August 2006.

Prior to this he was a field engineer at Allianz Cornhill and previously spent eight years as an estimator for an independent bodyshop.
