Blyth Valley recruits More Th>n account handlersSuffolk-based broker Blyth Valley has appointed four new account handlers, all previously from the Ipswich offices of More Th>n.Joining Blyth Valley are: Jane Aldous, from More Th>n's home underwriting team; Paul Cotton, organisational and strategic change consultant; and team leaders with More Th>n sales and services Catherine Maldon and Mark Whitehead.Blyth Valley specialises in the Hiscox portfolio of professional indemnity policies.Lloyd's broker Park London has appointed Charles England as managing director of a newly-created division specialising in UK professional indemnity and directors' and officers' liability. England was formerly managing director of the professional indemnity division at HSBC Insurance Brokers. He has more than 20 years' experience in the professional indemnity market.
Budget Samantha Warnock has joined the Budget Group of Companies in the new role of senior rocurement manager. Warnock will initially be responsible for the development and implementation of a procurement strategy for the business services division, which services the group and its businesses. She will report to Bob Perry, director of business services. She has six years' purchasing experience, particularly in the building and development of procurement initiatives. She has worked mainly within the telecommunications industry, including appointments at Siemens Communications and Scania GB.
QBEQBE has appointed Alastair Herbert and David Draper as joint underwriting managers for its UK and Continental Europe general liability portfolio. Both will report to Ash Bathia, portfolio manager for general liability. Herbert entered the casualty market in 1985 as a broker for C T Bowrings. He became a casualty underwriter in 1991 and most recently worked as an international underwriter at Brit.Draper has more than 17 years' underwriting experience in the Lloyd's and company markets. He was most recently senior casualty underwriter at Chubb Insurance Company of Europe SA.
BupaDean Pollard has been appointed development director for Bupa International. Pollard is responsible for the development of key business projects, strategic alliances, marketing and product development. He has 18 years' experience in the private medical insurance sector.
Guardian GeneralGuardian General, the general insurance arm of Caribbean financial services company Guardian Holdings, has appointed Richard Espinet as senior vice president and chief operating officer. Espinet's focus will be on Guardian General's core business, giving strategic direction to its Caribbean operations. He spent the first 11 years of his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers. This was followed by 16 years working with one of Trinidad and Tobago's general insurance providers, progressing to the position of chief executive. He is a former director on the board of the Association of Trinidad & Tobago Insurance Companies.
Arch Insurance CompanyArch Insurance Company (Europe) has appointed Nicholas Metcalf to the newly-created position of director of underwriting.Metcalf has a background in the London market and was most recently chief executive of XL London Market, with responsibility for its global marine and offshore energy, equine, fine art and specie lines. In his new role he will be responsible for directing Arch Europe's current underwriting activities and future plans.Metcalf will report to Bob Van Gieson, president and chief executive of Arch Europe.
ZurichZurich London has appointed Glenn Ellis as customer relationship manager.Ellis will report to Nicholas Stretton, head of customer relationship management at Zurich London.Ellis has 30 years' industry experience. He joins Zurich London from BT's risk management department. His most recent role at BT was business management director to some of BT's insurance industry clients.
Veitch Penny SolicitorsVeitch Penny Solicitors of Exeter and Crediton have recruited legal officer Joanne Pruden as a trainee solicitor in its insurance department.Pruden has spent the last four years working as a legal officer in the legal department of Torbay Council.At Veitch Penny she will be working alongside Mark Fowles, who is partner and head of the insurance department.
PysdensKay Pysden has left Davies Lavery with all members of her existing division to set up her own niche marine and transit law practice.The new firm will trade as Pysdens, in Fenchurch Street, London.Davies Lavery will continue to concentrate on its other core insurance and corporate and commercial specialisms. Pysden has been at Davies Lavery since August 2000. Her new move was mutually agreed with Davies Lavery.
ACM ULRSharon Allen has been appointed to the position of associate director for ACM ULR, part of the Budget group. Allen will oversee the operational running of the business, and sourcing and maximising of new business opportunities. She was previously a senior manager and has 11 years' experience in the industry. She has worked mainly in the technical claims area, moving to an operational role three years ago.
IUAThe International Underwriting Association (IUA) has appointed a new chairman for its Marine Technical Committee.Len Messenger, energy underwriter at Zurich Global Energy, takes over the post from Graham Hensman, marine underwriter at Allianz Marine and Aviation.The committee is one of the IUA's three main underwriting committees. It is also responsible for overseeing the association's marine clauses committee as well as a number of joint market underwriting and claims committees.Messenger is also a member of the International Union of Maritime Insurers executive committee.
Perception Perception, the legal expense insurance broker of Midlands-based Blakemores Solicitors, has appointed three new regional account managers. Roger Chase joins as regional account manager for the South East. Chase joins from ARB Underwriting, having previously worked as an area development manager for Folgate.Peter Holdcroft joins as regional account manager for the North West. He was previously an area sales manager at Hill House Hammond.Debbie Kelsall joins as regional account manager for western England. She was previously a key accounts manager at Helphire.
