Direct Line appoints Lowe

Andrew Lowe has been appointed business manager for Direct Line's motor breakdown business. He will oversee the strategic management and future planning of all breakdown activity.

Lowe joins the head office in Croydon, as part of the retail management team, headed up by Graham Ross.

Lowe joins Direct Line from the strategic management team at One Account, also a Royal Bank of Scotland subsidiary. Prior to this, Lowe was head of banking development at Norwich Union.

He has extensive experience within the financial industry, with a career spanning 18 years. His experience includes time at Flemings, Barclays, TSB Group and MBNA.

Insurers

HealthSure
Nina Machell hasjoined healthcare provider HealthSure as account development co-ordinator.

She will be responsible for developing healthcare policies among existing clients.

Commitments Protection
Commitments Protection has appointed Philip Watson as business development manager (UK) with specific responsibility for the City and West End.

He brings a wealth of experience in both accident sickness and unemployment and householders' insurance, having previously been the founding director of John Charcol Insurance Brokers.

CNA
John Watson, branch manager of CNA's Kings Hill office, has been appointed UK regional distribution manager for CNA.

In his new role, Watson will work with other CNA branch managers to implement best practices for agency management.

Watson will retain his existing responsibilities as branch manager of CNA's Kings Hill office.

Gerling NCM
Paul-Henri Denieuil, former chief executive of the Euler Group, and currently non-executive chairman of Deloitte and Touche Corporate Finance in France, has been appointed chief executive of Gerling NCM. He will hold this position until a permanent appointment is made.

Denieuil succeeds Bernd Meyer who has been overseeing the shareholder restructuring and successful post-merger integration. Meyer will move to the supervisory board where he will continue to support company development.

Chief financial officer Anno Kamphuis has been appointed to the Gerling NCM management board.

In addition to Meyer, Axel Wieandt (Deutsche Bank) and Detlef Bierbaum (Sal Oppenheim) have joined the supervisory board.

Ace European Group,
Ace European Group has recently appointed Neil Bennett to the Manchester team as risk management consultant.

Bennett joins Ace from Jardine Lloyd Thompson and brings more than 25 years' experience to the rapidly expanding team at the Manchester office.

His remit will be to expand the services offered by the growing in-house risk management facility at the Manchester branch.

Marsh
Marsh has appointed Brian Shaw as its new UK public sector practice leader.

Shaw will lead a team of insurance and risk management professionals providing a wide range of transactional and consultancy solutions to central government departments/executive agencies, local authorities, emergency services and social housing organisations.

He has more than 30 years' experience in public sector insurance and risk management, including senior executive positions with a public sector insurer in the UK and Australia.

Bell & Clements
Peter Murrell has been appointed to the board of Lloyd's broker, Bell & Clements, with particular responsibility for the group's UK underwriting activities

PWS Holdings
PWS Holdings has appointed Julian Messent as chief executive. This follows Peter Smith having given notice of resignation as group managing director.

Messent joined PWS as director of the Americas property division in 1995, moving from Alexander Howden (now part of Aon). Previously he was director of the European and Latin Americas property team at Sedgwick.

JL Manson
Manchester-based commercial insurance broker JL Manson & Partners, has appointed Martin Mansley as new business account executive.

Mansley previously worked for Bury-based accountants DTE in the insurance department, where he specialised in sports and leisure accounts.

At JL Manson & Partners he will be responsible for the day to day renewal needs of a number of clients, in addition to growing the business.

Willis
Willis Group Holdings has appointed Kim Green as national practice leader of the broker's newly formed consumer products practice group.

She joins from Aon's New York office where she was senior vice president.

Singer & Friedlander
Singer & Friedlander has made two new appointments to its broker development team. David Blakemore has been appointed as UK sales manager and Gillian Franklin as account manager.

Blakemore joins from Groupama Insurance, where he was major connection manager, leading the sales team.

Franklin has more than 19 years' experience and joins from CNA, where she was commercial and personal lines underwriter for the Midlands.

Beynon Nicholls
Beynon Nicholls has appointed Osman Zulfiqar as assistant solicitor in its personal injury department.

He joins from Arora Lodhi Heath.

Crawford & Company

Crawford & Company has appointed John Buckle as UK liability operations manager.

He will work alongside Jeff Stagg who has recently taken up position as UK liability technical manager.

Arepa
Technical disaster recovery specialist Arepa has appointed Rudi Pedersen as international business manager.

He brings to Arepa many years of business development experience and expertise from the high-tech communications field.

InsurE-com
InsurE-com has appointed a non-executive director and is increasing its sales division with the addition of six new sales personnel.

The key appointments made within the sales division provide three additional account executives to cover the South, North and Scotland. Three new in-house sales staff will support them.

Sam Kingston, previously senior vice president of Oracle Consulting, also joins as a non-executive director.

Business manager Phil Grainger, assumes responsibility for driving the sales of insur-E.office and insur-E.tam.

Joe Sultana will head up post- sales activities and will co-ordinate and manage insurE-com's regional account executives.

Company focus
OCM appoints new management team

Outsourced Credit Management (OCM) in Halifax has appointed a new management team.

Johan van der Merwe has joined as managing director; Petra Bridges has been appointed as data processing coordinator; Tom Mortimer has joined as head of finance & IT; Jeremy Johnson has joined as client liaison manager; Tracy Brown has joined as call centre manager; and Dawn Haley has joined from Provident Insurance as marketing manager.
