Former BMS Group chief executive John Spencer also appointed non-executive director.

Heritage Managing Agency, a member of Argo Group International Holdings, has announced the appointment of Neil Chapman as its new joint active underwriter.

In this role, Chapman will join Mark Lawrence, the existing joint active underwriter, and be responsible for Syndicate 1200 property. He will also be appointed to the board of Heritage Managing Agency, subject to Lloyd’s and FSA approval.

Most recently a deputy business group leader at Catlin, and previously an underwriting director at Wellington, Chapman joins Heritage with many years of experience in the Lloyd’s market. Prior to joining Wellington in 1997 as an underwriter, Chapman worked at the Harvey Bowring syndicate in Lloyd’s.

Richard Pexton, Heritage chief executive, said, “Neil’s extensive experience of the Lloyd’s market will be hugely beneficial at this key stage in our development of both the team and our portfolio of business.

"We welcome Neil’s underwriting talent and contribution to the board. His appointment demonstrates our commitment to building a market leading team of specialist underwriters in preparation for future growth.”

Heritage has also announced the appointment of John Spencer as a non-executive director subject to Lloyd’s and FSA approval.

The company said Spencer has a wealth of experience in the Lloyd's market, both in the broking sector and at the Corporation of Lloyd’s. Most recently, he was chief executive Officer of BMS Group, the specialist insurance and reinsurance broker. He has also served as deputy chairman of the London Market Brokers Committee.

“John brings to the board the breadth and depth of his knowledge, experience and skills, which will undoubtedly benefit both our vision and strategy going forward as we continue to build our platform,” said Heritage Chief Executive Officer Richard Pexton.
