Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group (JLT) has confirmed that "discussions are at an early stage" over a possible offer for rival broker Heath Lambert Group.
In a Stock Exchange announcement, JLT said it noted the recent press speculation but said that the discussions "may or may not lead to a transaction".
The broker added: "The transaction, if effected, would not require an equity capital raising."
JLT said a further statement would be made "as and when appropriate".
In early trading, JLT's shares were down 0.50% at 398.50p
