Reinsurer Axis Capital has estimated that its net losses from Hurricane Katrina will be between $500m (£276m) and $650m (£358m).
Axis said in a statement that the estimated range is based on industrywide loss projections of $40bn (£22bn) to $60bn (£33bn).
