"The insurance industry faces potentially a major skills shortage" is the issue being debated at the Chartered Insurance Institute's annual conference Harrogate this week.

Commenting in advance of the conference, the CII's divisional director, marketing, Freddie Hospedales, said: "This year's debate topic is an issue which is becoming an area of major concern to senior executives across the insurance industry. However, far too many people are unaware of its potential danger. I very much hope this discussion will raise awareness all round."

The panel of industry leaders conducting the debate includes Max Taylor, chairman of Lloyd's; Andy Homer, chief executive Axa Insurance; Simon Bolam, Biba chairman; Andrew Lund, chairman Cunningham Ellis and Buckle; and David Bland, CII director general.
