New team to be up and running by October
Liberty Syndicate Management Limited has appointed Peter Smith to head up its new specialty products underwriting team with immediate effect.
Smith joins from Sagicor at Lloyd’s, where he was deputy active underwriter, and will report in to Liberty Synicates chief underwriting officer Matthew Moore.
Liberty Syndicates said it plans to have the new team up and running by October 2012, focusing on treaty personal accident and treaty political risks, credit and crisis management.
Moore said: “This represents a major new initiative for Liberty Syndicates, taking us into a segment of the market in which we believe we can make significant inroads. We know that these specialty products are an area in which brokers would like us to take an active role.
“Our next step, which is already under way, is to build a team of strong, respected underwriters to support this endeavour.”
The insurer said the new division will underwrite niche insurance and reinsurance product lines and next generation emerging risks.
Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
