Liberty International Underwriters (LIU) is moving into the Middle East market. LIU's opening of an office in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) will allow the division of Liberty Mutual Group to expand its portfolio of construction, oil, gas and power insurance.

Elie Bouchaaya will manage the office.

Edmund F Kelley, the chairman, president and chief executive of Libery Mutual, said: “Entering Dubai puts us in the region's important and rapidly expanding insurance market. As the financial hub for the Gulf and Middle East, Dubai provides opportunities for growth consistent with our overall international expansion strategy.”

Sean Rocks, chief executive of Liberty International Underwriters in Europe “To keep up with demand, brokers are looking for increased local capacity with companies that understand the region. Our new office and Elie's extensive experience in the Middle East insurance market over the past 20 years, provides both.”
