New Zealand suffers second big earthquake

The New Zealand city of Christchurch and surrounding districts has been hit by a magnutude 5 earthquake less than two months after a magnitude 7 event struck the city, Bloomberg reports.

The earthquake hit at 11.32 local time, and was centred about 10 kilometres southwest of the city. The epicentre was nine kilometres below ground.

The quake caused powercuts, evacuations and delays to air travel.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
