Alexander joins Buick and Thomas in insurer’s stable

Lucy Alexander

Markel International has signed a deal to sponsor Britain’s first ever female jump jockey.

Lucy Alexander, 21, has ridden 43 winners in her career and more winners than any other female jockey in one season.

Alexander joins William Buick and Sam Thomas, Markel’s long-standing sponsored jockeys, both of whom recently signed for a further two years with the insurer.

Alexander said: “As I start out on what I hope will be a long and successful career, I am thrilled to join Markel and represent a brand that has such strong racing connections and which looks after its sponsored jockeys so well. I look forward to representing Markel both on and off the track and hope I can ride a fair few winners for them!”

Markel International president and chief operating officer William Stovin said: “We are delighted that Lucy has joined us to promote our brand. Her skill and dedication reflect our brand values and we wish Lucy every success. We’re looking forward to a winning partnership.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
