Aviva eyeing bank boss to replace Lord Sharman

Barclays deputy chairman Richard Broadbent is the leading candidate to become the next chairman of Aviva, according to reports.

Aviva is currently hunting for a successor to current-chairman Lord Sharman, who is due to retire in 2013.

Broadbent hasn’t yet agreed to take the job, the FT said, citing unidentified people with knowledge of the matter.

Aviva and Broadbent declined to comment.

Other candidates for the Aviva role included Eric Daniels, the former chief executive of Lloyds Bank, although he was dropped from the shortlist last week.
