Following the recent merger of healthcare specialists Burke Ford Healthcare with the retail insurance employee benefits business of Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT), the newly formed outfit has announced it will operate under the name Jardine Lloyd Thompson Healthcare.

The merger has created an organisation with revenues in excess of £50m. Burke Ford Healthcare's specialist field was health insurance for those employed in the education sector.

Under JLT Healthcare, all this side of the business will be handled where it has traditionally been dealt with at the Burke Ford's office in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. All other business will be dealt with at the regional offices throughout the UK.

Burke Ford sits beneath the Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group umbrella, which employs 4,000 people in 35 countries.

Neil Redman, formerly head of Burke Ford Healthcare, will serve as managing director of JLT Healthcare and he is confident that the new venture is well positioned to take a larger slice of the higher education benefits market.

“We aim to develop our market position – currently 30% in the tertiary education sector, delivering attractive products that best meet our clients' needs. I have no doubt we will build an ever-strengthening business.”

Redman went on to point out that over the last ten years there had been a dramatic change in the type and delivery of healthcare services to the sector.

As part of the enhanced healthcare package for those working in higher and further education, there is an employee support helpline which provides round-the-clock access to professionals who will be able help with a wide range of problems.
