Zurich has appointed Nick Major as chief underwriting officer for its global corporate business in the UK.

Major is succeeding Mark Platten who is taking a 12 month sabbatical.

Major will be responsible for underwriting across GCUK, including managing key broker and customer relationships, and portfolio management.

He will report to GCUK chief executive Ann Haugh and will be a member of her executive team.

Major joined Zurich in 2003 as senior property underwriter. In 2007 he was appointed head of property for GCUK and in February 2011 was made head of first party risk and interim chief underwriting officer.

Haugh said: “During his time with Zurich, Nick has demonstrated his ability to work across the full underwriting portfolio and as a leader.

“He will therefore make an excellent addition to my executive team.”
