Zurich has extended the notification period for reporting riot claims from 7 days to 30 days for its property insurance policyholders.

The move follows the Government's decision last week to extend the reporting provisions of the Riot (Damages) Act to 42 days.

"We hope that this extension of time will help to minimise any difficulties our customers may be experiencing in submitting a claim," said a Zurich spokesman.

"We would urge any of our customers to contact us as soon as they can in order that we can provide them with information and advice."#

Zurich was the sole insurer for the Carpetright building in Tottenham that was gutted by fire last weekend.
