Clone firms have been trying to scam people in the UK, the FCA has warned

The FCA has issued its latest warning of a clone firm passing itself off as authorised insurance broker Secure Life Limited.

The clone is not authorised by the FCA. The regulator warned fraudsters were giving out details similar to that of Secure Life Limited “as part of their tactics to scam people in the UK”.

The FCA added: “Fraudsters usually use this tactic when contacting people out of the blue, so you should be especially wary if you have been cold called.

“They may use the name of the genuine firm, the ‘firm reference number’ (FRN) we have given the authorised firm or other details.”

The authorised firm was incorporated in December 2016 and is based out of Birmingham. Its company listing states it has permission to provide regulated products and services and is able to undertake insurance distribution.

“This FCA authorised firm that fraudsters are claiming to work for has no association with the ‘clone firm’,” the FCA added.
