Sue Coffey, personal lines director at Covea, speaks on his firm’s entry to the Personal Lines Insurer of the Year category
1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the Personal Lines Insurer of the Year category?
Covea have always said that it wouldn’t ever put itself forward for an award unless it had receipts. We now have them and I feel we’re able to share not only our journey but the results.
After a challenging period, we’ve delivered a remarkable turnaround without ever compromising on service. We maintained absolute customer focus throughout the turnaround.

As an intermediated insurer it was important to remain visible and accessible in the market to ensure we are an insurer of choice for our broker partners. I’m incredibly proud of what our team and brokers have achieved together.
Putting ourselves forward is about celebrating that resilience, common goals and strong partnerships make it possible.
2. What makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?
Our results speak for themselves and they were made possible by discipline, focus and a clear strategy.
We’ve restored profitability and held the number one spot for broker service for seven years.
We have strong staff engagement results with a diverse and inclusive culture while continuing to innovate, launching prevent and protect initiatives like #StormReady that genuinely protect customers.
3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?
The challenges in our business were real but we regrouped, refocused and reenergised.
This award would recognise our people who have worked so hard to build a really strong sustainable business. I would burst with pride if we were to win because of not only what we have done but how we have done it.
We have a culture that genuinely cares and a strategy about doing what really matters and this award would celebrate that.
