More than 850 UK general insurance brokers responded to Insurance Times’ survey to rate their commercial and personal lines insurer partners

Insurance Times has today (4 February 2026) revealed the headline results from its Five Star Rating Report: Commercial and Personal Lines 2026 in an exciting sneak preview ahead of the full report’s publication in March 2026.

The exclusive findings compiled by Insurance Times confirm that six insurers received the highest five star score from broker respondents for their commercial lines service, while three insurers topped the personal lines service table for this year.

The Five Star Rating Report: Commercial and Personal Lines is an annual research report published by Insurance Times – now in its 20th year.

The report findings are based on a comprehensive Broker Service Survey, with feedback from 850 UK general insurance (UKGI) brokers collected between October and December 2025 underpinning the 2026 research edition.

The survey asks brokers for their opinion on the service received from insurers they have regularly placed business with over the past 12 months, covering areas such as product acquisition, risk management support, relationship management, product opportunities, pricing and regional presence.

This year’s results

For 2026, Markel UK, Arch Insurance, Covéa Insurance, Aviva, Zurich and QBE ranked highest when it came to delivering high quality service to brokers for commercial lines products. These six insurers received the maximum five star rating for overall service across all five of the report’s key metrics.

Meanwhile, five insurers achieved an overall four star rating from broker respondents for their commercial lines service and a further four insurers gained a three star rating.

As for personal lines performance this year, Covéa Insurance, Ageas UK and Aviva led the field with all three earning a five star rating from the polled brokers. Two additional insurers received a final four star score for 2026, while another two secured a three star overall rating.

Insurance Times’ commercial lines ranking for 2026 includes AIG, Allianz, Arch Insurance, Aviva, Axa, Chubb, Covéa Insurance, ERS, Hiscox, Intact Insurance UK, Markel UK, QBE, Tokio Marine HCC, Travelers and Zurich.

The publication’s personal lines analysis, meanwhile, features Ageas UK, Allianz, Aviva, Axa, Covéa Insurance, ERS and Sabre Insurance.

Influencing innovation

Speaking on this year’s research project, Insurance Times’ head of research, Savan Shah, emphasised the pivotal role brokers play in shaping the future of the UK insurance market. He said: “A huge thank you to every broker across the country who took the time to participate in this year’s survey. Your insights are far more than feedback – they are a catalyst for meaningful change across both commercial and personal lines.

”Your shared experiences directly influence how insurers innovate, refine their service models, enhance products and ultimately improve outcomes for the customers you serve. The power of your collective voice is instrumental in pushing the market toward higher standards, greater transparency and more aligned propositions.

”I have seen firsthand just how seriously insurers treat the feedback you provide. Every year, your views inform the service improvements they prioritise, the investments they make and the way they evolve to meet changing customer needs. Thank you for continuing to challenge, guide and influence your insurer partners. Your voice truly drives the industry forward.”
