Craig Evans, chief executive at Company Watch, explains why his firm deserves to win the Excellence in Fraud Mitigation award

Why did you put yourselves forward for the category?

Craig Evans, chief executive at Company Watch

Insurance sits right at the heart of where we make a difference, so entering felt natural. We work with insurers, MGAs, brokers and underwriters every day and much of Vigilance 2.0 was shaped by what they told us they needed. Fraud against insurers increasingly hides inside company and director data – application fraud, ghost broking and phoenix activity behind commercial policyholders.

We have seen the difference real-time detection makes to underwriting and counter-fraud teams and this category is a precise fit for that work. It felt like the right moment to put it forward for industry recognition.

What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?

Most fraud tools look backwards at scores and filed accounts. Vigilance 2.0 is a live monitoring layer across the entire UK company population, tracking 25 abnormal behaviours and alerting clients the moment something changes. Since its July 2025 launch it has flagged over 482,000 companies – around 9% of UK companies – including 104,000 phoenix links exposing over 58,000 directors.

It is also the only tool of its kind tracking ECCTA changes and Companies House annotations on misleading filings. That blend of real-time detection, director-level scrutiny and explainable flags, embedded directly into underwriting workflows, is hard to find elsewhere.

What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

It would mean a great deal. Recognition from the insurance industry, a sector we have served for years, and where many of our longest-standing clients sit, carries real weight. Winning would validate the work our data, product and engineering teams have put into Vigilance and the trust insurers place in us to help them see risk others miss. Most importantly, it would reinforce why we do this – protecting genuine customers and the integrity of the market from those who exploit it.
