The candidate is the ‘ideal person’ to fulfil the role because he has been ‘pivotal’ in shaping broker-insurer relationships, says divisional managing director

Markel UK has promoted its UK sales and marketing director Nic Brown to the newly created role of broker divisional director, effective from 4 January 2022.

In this position, Brown will lead Markel’s UK national markets broker channel, as well as have oversight of the business’ profit and loss figures.

Brown’s appointment aims to help Markel UK better develop broker relationships, while also bringing the insurer’s leadership team closer to its distribution channels.

Speaking on his new job role, Brown said: “Our growth creates opportunity to seek continuous improvement in the way we operate, introducing new solutions and retaining and recruiting the best talent to service the demands of our brokers.

“The change in leadership focus brings all aspects of the broker journey under one roof and fully aligns Markel UK to its brokers’ interests.”

Brown initially joined Markel International in 2017 as sales and marketing director, after spending nearly a decade in senior roles at Axa Travel Insurance, investment banking company Citi and insurer Aetna International.

Targeting growth

Neil Galjaard, Markel UK’s divisional managing director, added: “We will continue to deliver the market’s best relationship management service, including letting brokers choose how they interact with us.

“Nic has been pivotal in shaping how we deliver this for brokers and is the ideal person to spearhead the focus we need as we embark on our next stage of growth.”

Following Brown’s appointment, Markel UK has additionally revealed that it is looking to expand its sector specialisms, with a new proposition for the construction sector being prepared to launch to market in H2 2022.
