Thomson will need to focus on integrating two newly bought brokers into Tasker’s retail broking division

Insurance intermediary Tasker has hired a new managing director of its retail broking arm, Tasker Insurance Brokers.

Long-time industry veteran Robin Thomson takes over from Ann Bowyer, who will remain on the group’s board, and oversee markets, placement, learning & development, Tasker said in a statement.

Thomson has 30 years’ experience in the industry having held leadership positions with Layton Blackham, Bluefin, as well as Clear Insurance. His focus will be on organic growth as well as “selective acquisitions and the establishment of a broader regional broking business and management team”, Tasker said.

Earlier in the summer Tasker bought specialist broker Hobbs Broking to boost its Midlands presence. Thomson’s new role will require him to oversee its integration into the retail broker business.

It was TIG’s second acquisition this year with their first being Castle Insurance Consultants Ltd – a specialist tour operator and travel insurance broker in March.

He is the latest in a string of leadership arrivals in recent years. Jonathan Webber was appointed as CFO in January, Graeme Lalley joined a year ago as COO and Robert Organ was made chief executive officer in September 2017.

Thomson said he was joining the Tasker Insurance Group at ”a really exciting time”.

“I can see that the business provides the perfect platform for growth and knowing Rob [Organ] for a number of years, having worked together at Bluefin, I am delighted to have the opportunity to be part of the team and contribute to the ambitious plans.”
