Insurance Times rounds up the biggest appointments, promotions and hires from 27 to 30 August 2024

Starting off the week, charity-backed insurer Ecclesiastical confirmed Allianz’s Dave Carey as the new managing director for its intermediary business.

Carey will succeed Adrian Saunders, who retired earlier this year after nearly a decade in the role.

In turn, Allianz Commercial appointed Graham Stait as its interim managing director for UK mid-market.

Then, Biba confirmed that Tom Downey, chief executive at Gallagher owned MGA Pen Underwriting, will replace retiring Charles Manchester on its network and managing general agents advisory boards.

Following this, Helios Underwriting appointed Katharine Wade as an independent non-executive director.

Wade will begin her role effective immediately and join Helios’ board as part of the move.

Rounding off the week, WTW appointed Gavin Hamilton as a director within its international property team.

Based in London, Hamilton will report into Edward Day, head of international property, in his new role.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
