Ben Thornton to exit after seven years at Direct Line Group

Exit

NIG’s director of e-trading Ben Thornton is to leave the company in October this year.

NIG is Direct Line Group’s broker-only commercial insurance division.

A Direct Line Group spokesman confirmed Thornton would be leaving the company towards the end of this year but declined to comment further.

Insurance Times understands that the departure is unconnected with the announced job cuts at NIG and Direct Line Group as a whole.

Thornton has worked at Direct Line Group, previously known as RBS Insurance, for seven years.

Before taking the role as e-trading director, he was director of strategy and operations for Direct Line’s commercial business.

Prior to that he was head of NIG’s personal lines business, which is now in run-off.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
