Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA) has opened a managedgeneral agency in New York.
The agency is part of the company's risk solutions division, which handles the insurance needs of businesses with turnover of more than £100m.
R&SA UK commercial director Brendan McManus said it has been established to service European clients with some exposures in the US.
McManus said the agency, which reports to him, has been set up in conjunction with Sompo Japan America.
The partnership approach was necessary as insurers needed A-rated paper to trade in the US, and R&SA no longer operated in the US, he said.
