PERILS announces final loss estimate for the cyclone which hit France and Germany in January 2017

PERILS has announced its fourth and final loss estimate for windstorm Egon which primarily affected France and Germany on 12 and 13 January 2017.

The revised estimate of the property insurance market loss is €275m (£222.5m).

In July 2017, PERILS issued its third estimate, which also stood at €275m (£222.5m), so the estimate has not changed.

In November 2017, PERILS announced its market loss as a result of Storm Ophelia, which hit the UK and Ireland, at €60m (£53.4m).

On 5 January 2018, Munich Re calculated the total insured losses for 2017 stood at $135bn ($99bn), the highest ever year-on-year total.
