Contractors will be able to gain up to £10m extra in public liability (PL) cover with the launch of a new scheme by Biba and CNA Insurance at this week's Biba conference.

The scheme, for Biba members, is aimed at small and medium-sized, UK-based contracting businesses with a turnover of up to £20m.

Plasterers, plumbers, window fitters and builders were all ideal clients for the new scheme, called cnaexcess.co.uk, CNA said.

The extra £10m in cover would be in addition to the limits of insurance provided by the primary PL policy for any one occurrence, the company said.

CNA said it was now an increasingly common requirement for principals to request confirmation of insurance cover, both in terms of the cover provided and the limits of indemnity given.

This prompted the need for adequate liability insurance, the company said.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
