Consumers who rely on price alone when choosing motor cover are at risk of being short-changed, warned financial research company Defaqto.
The company has compiled an independent table of 60 stand-alone motor breakdown policies from which it is evident that low price does not equate cover value, it said.
It advised that consumers should take into account claim limit, European cover detail, and definitions and exclusions when purchasing cover.
Defaqto commercial director Mark Hayes-Newington said: “It's very difficult to compare products on a like-for-like basis, and consumers who rely solely on price may find themselves short changed.”
