David Cameron says "loony left is still alive and well" in the UK

David Cameron has criticised the ECJ ruling that banned gender-based pricing for insurance premiums from December 2012, adding that the European Court showed no "common sense" with the ruling.

Cameron made the statement when Conservative MP Jonathan Evans asked if Cameron shared his disappointment that Labour MEP Mary Honeyball welcomed the ruling.

Speaking in the House of Commons on 27 April, Cameron said: "Well, I have to say to my hon. Friend that that shows that some of the loony left is still alive and well in our country.

"Frankly, insurance premiums ought to reflect risk, and my hon. Friend is, as ever, displaying common sense, whereas the European Court did not."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
