Entire market may be forced to copy RSA, says Provident claims boss

Provident Insurance claims director Adrian Furness said that the insurer is “disappointed” with RSA’s high court victory on car repair charges and wants to appeal.

He said: “Provident took the decision to challenge RSA’s repair model as we feel strongly that, as an industry, we should be working towards finding ways to drive out cost from claims management activities.

“Naturally we are disappointed with the ruling, as it’s crystal clear that practices which increase repair costs lead to increased insurance premiums, which is bad news for the end consumer and damaging to the reputation of our industry.”

Furness added that the entire market may be forced to copy RSA to avoid losing out.

He said: “Given this, we fully intend to appeal this decision. Our industry is already under considerable scrutiny from both Parliament and the OFT in relation to rising insurance premiums and we would encourage the OFT to consider the full implications of this ruling.”
