Independent Insurance administrators are reported to be suing the company's auditors, KPMG, for negligence over the collapse of company in 2001.
Reports said the administrators have claimed auditors should have been aware of the gap in Independent's accounts. They intend to sue for damages worth tens of millions of pounds.
It is the second suit to be brought by PriceWaterhouse Coopers (PWC). The first negligence claim was brought against Independent's actuaries Watson Wyatt.
The claim is expected to be served within days, reports said.
