PwC has hired James Quin to lead its insurance market reporting business in Europe.

Quin has joined PwC's financial services accounting advisory business from Citigroup, where he was a managing director and head of European insurance equity research.

His role also includes helping insurers respond to challenges posed by the requirements of Solvency II and the new insurance IFRS Phase II.

Quin's’ previous positions include insurance analyst roles at Lehman Brothers, HSBC and SG Securities.

Mark Stephen, UK insurance leader at PwC, said: “James is one of Europe’s leading insurance analysts with an excellent understanding of the industry. His skills, experience and understanding of investor needs will bring significant value to our clients, particularly as they deal with the exceptional challenges of Solvency II and IFRS Phase II.

"This new team will further enhance our ability to support clients across their business and help them to effectively address the needs of management, investors and regulators.”

Quin added: “The insurance industry’s poor market performance in comparison to other sectors is partly due to inconsistent, overly complex and sometimes opaque reporting, which often fails to communicate a clear message to investors.

"I will work on helping insurers understand what really drives the capital markets and how to turn the regulatory and reporting upheaval away from a compliance headache into a competitive opportunity.”
