Units closed as administrator fails to find buyer

Accounting firm PwC has announced 1,800 redundancies at failed property repair company Rok after it failed to find buyers for the Rok's UK maintenance and construction division and its construction business in Scotland. The units have been closed.

The construction and social housing division in England remains unaffected, and PwC continues to pursue a sale of this part of the business.

PwC is the administrator for Rok, which announced its intention to enter administration last Monday. Some 711 redundancies were announced last Thursday.

“Regrettably, the redundancies made today were necessary as it became clear in the last 24 hours that we were not going to be able to find a purchaser for these parts of the group," said Rob Hunt, partner and joint administrator at PwC, in a statement. "Operations cannot continue and hence we have had to take steps to close both the maintenance and improvements division as well as the Scottish construction division. We have retained a small workforce to assist us in this process."
