Robert Ashby switches to Markel's marine and energy division

Markel International has appointed Robert Ashby as specie underwriter to boost its marine and energy division.

Ashby joins from QBE, where he spent six years as deputy specie underwriter.

Ashby said: “I am delighted to be joining Markel international at this time. The company has a worldwide portfolio of business and offers a flexible approach to a wide range of clients.”

Paul Jenks, director of marine and energy, said: “I am pleased that we have attracted someone with Robert’s background and experience. His appointment will give further breadth and depth to our capability.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
