Royal and SunAlliance and the Misys subsidiary, Countrywide Independent Advisers, have agreed in principle to allow members of RSA's direct sales force and its tied agents to join Countrywide's IFA network.

The agreement follows RSA's announcement that it was to withdraw from the commissioned direct sales and tied agency markets and increase its focus on the IFA sector.

The deal means that RSA salesforce members would be able to become IFAs under the Countrywide umbrella, joining existing member firms or running their own operation.

"We wanted to make it as easy as possible for our company representatives to continue to operate in the financial services market," said director of agency sales for the life and unit trust arm, Rod Haire.

"The deal reinforces our belief that independent advisers will continue to be the natural choice for financial advice in the twenty-first century."
