New MD drafted into Towergate business

Nel Mooy has been appointed managing director of Towergate's unemployment, accident and sickness insurer, British Insurance.

She takes over the leadership from Simon Burgess who is leaving the Colchester-based company to provide unemployment insurance in the United States.

Mooy was previously head of direct marketing and offer at AXA Insurance and held a number of positions with the insurer for over nine year. Prior to that she worked in IT development and with Reuters in the UK and the Netherlands.

Burgess said: “I’m delighted Nel is at the helm, British Insurance has a reputation for integrity and being a company you can trust, and she is well-placed to build upon this. Nel is highly competent, cares about consumers and is a safe pair of hands to move the business forward.”

British Insurance was acquired by Towergate in January 2008. Amanda Blanc, deputy chief exectuive of Towergate said: “We’re well-known for recruiting talented and motivated people and Nel is no exception to this. She will be crucial in helping us develop and extend our portfolio to better meet consumers’ lifestyle needs.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
