Volume of damage to commercial and high net worth properties down on previous storms

QuestGates has received four times its daily average of new claims notifications in the aftermath of storm St Jude.

The loss adjuster, which deals with commercial and high net worth properties, said claims were split between damage caused by trees crashing into buildings, roofs lifting off, and minor damage to roof tiles.

Managing director Chris Hall told Insurance Times his company had dealt with three times the usual volume of new claims between 8am and lunch time, with the number rising to four times the daily average this afternoon.

Claims could rise further as insurers continue to take calls from policy holders.

Hall said claims had been fairly restricted to London and the south east, and the damage nothing like as bad as that caused by past storms.

“We don’t get the impression it is the widespread damage that has been in previous surges,” he said.
