Direct Line is set to introduce artificial intelligence software into its online system in a bid boost sales. The system automatically provides answers to questions from customers buying insurance online. Direct Line says the system - Metafaq - will improve conversion rates and reduce the level of "abandoned" online transactions.

Primary Biba boost
Primary Broker Services (PBS) claimed it quoted for more than £500,000 of business at this year's Biba conference. PBS was also asked to hold cover on a risk from a broker that it had never worked with before.

PIAB draft
The Irish government has published draft legislation on the establishment of a Personal Injuries Assessment Board. After a recent visit to Ireland, ABI head of general insurance John Parker said the PIAB model could offer a solution to the UK liability crisis.

Elite partnership
Elite Incident Management, has formed a partnership with vehicle accident repairer Truckcraft Management Services. The deal enables Elite to offer commercial repairs to its portfolio of accident management services.

AXA appointment
AXA UK has appointed François-Xavier Quilici to the newly created post of group chief information officer. Quilici will be responsible for creating an IT centre of excellence for AXA operations in the UK and Ireland.

ABI flood measures
The ABI has published a range of measures aimed at helping homeowners to reduce the risk of flooding. The guide suggests homeowners should install concrete floors and replace chipboard floors with timber. The ABI also recommends that water-resistant material, such as lime plaster or cement render, is used in place of plasterboard.
