Property specialist SVB is targeting a Brit specialist team so it can move into the UK professional indemnity (PI), directors' and officers' (D&O) and medical malpractice markets.
Eight Brit underwriters, who specialise in a range of fields including PI, D&O and medical malpractice, have been approached by SVB.
An SVB spokesman confirmed that Brit medical malpractice specialist Bill Edrich would be joining the insurer.
Negotiations involving the other seven underwriters are understood to be ongoing.
In a separate development, lawyers representing Brit have written to its former PI underwriter Andy Doré to remind him of his "contractual obligations" to the insurer ahead of his move to Lloyd's managing agent Abacus, according to a Brit spokesman.
An Abacus spokesman said: "No formal contract offers have been made by Abacus to underwriters at Brit."
