Insurance industry IT guru and Insurance Times contributor Manjit Rana spends most of his time convincing the industry that technology will save it time and money.

However, it seems Rana's own brushes with high-tech do not always go according to plan.

After speaking at Insurance Times' Premium Content broker conference last week, Rana was due for a quick turnaround at his Mount Road hotel before attending the evening dinner at Wolverhampton's racecourse.

So Rana switched on the satellite navigation device in his car and keyed in the address. Over the next 20 minutes, Rana visited several Mount Roads in the West Midlands - none of which had any sign of a hotel.

After giving up on the hotel, Rana decided to head for the racecourse and found it the conventional way - namely following the road signs.
