Autoglass is delighted to have won the Insurance Times Training Programme of the Year award for its National Skills Centre.

The Autoglass National Skills Centre was set-up to provide our technicians with the skills and knowledge they need to meet the changing demands of the vehicle glass market.

Over recent years the windscreen has evolved from being a simple piece of glass to a complex safety feature, requiring our technicians to be trained to the highest standards to handle the demands of today's larger and complex vehicle glass.

We are committed to providing peace of mind to motorists and insurers by putting safety at the heart of our service.

Glass claims now represent about one in three of claims made on comprehensive motor policies, with Autoglass servicing over a million policyholders each year.

It is critically important that we continue to deliver the highest standards of service, as a satisfied policyholder is one that is more likely to renew.

The National Skills Centre, which has also received a Quality Accreditation from Thatcham, has an exciting future. In 2005 the centre will move to a larger, purpose-built and equipped premise ensuring that we continue to deliver training excellence to both new and experienced technicians.

Highly commended

Allianz Cornhill - Underwriting graduate training programme

"Underwriting is the cornerstone of our industry. All underwriters need strong technical skills, but the challenge we face is how to fill our technical knowledge gaps quickly, effectively and with confidence.

Allianz Cornhill's response was to find a way to use its existing "experience base" to develop a new "knowledge base". The Underwriting graduate training programme is an accelerated development programme that fast tracks graduates through a structured learning process towards fulfilling underwriting roles more quickly than traditional career paths.

Business teams develop their own technically competent career underwriters with the help of structured training, secondments, study support, continuous assessment and personal development planning sessions.

The Underwriting graduate scheme has enabled Allianz Cornhill Commercial Division to recruit talented staff to fill technical knowledge gaps and compete successfully in the marketplace.

We are delighted that our Underwriting graduate training programme has been highly commended for the Training Programme of the Year.

Allianz Cornhill - Excellence in claims programme

Allianz Cornhill was also highly commended for its Excellence in Claims programme.

This programme has been developed using the process of self-study, local coaching, consolidated workshops and assessment that ensures effective learning. As a direct result, this programme has been awarded CPD Accreditation by the CII - the first claims initiative to be accredited in this way.

Allianz Cornhill's success has been built primarily on the technical expertise of its staff. The Excellence in claims programme is a further investment in that expertise, one which is set to continue. This programme will not stand still. Further modules are being developed to embrace new areas of our business.
