Perth-based broker has big plans for Scottish expansion

Former Giles Insurance Brokers trading and placement director Andrew Watson has joined Scottish broker George Stubbs Insurance Services along with several staff from the consolidator.

Watson is heading the broker’s new Glasgow office, which opened last month to target corporate business. He currently heads a team of seven including sales admin and claims staff.

Managing director George Stubbs confirmed that a “number of former Giles employees” had joined the business, along with other staff, but refused to comment on specific appointments.

“We are filling what we believe is a void in the market for a professional all-encompassing independent broker, following a number of sales to consolidators,” he said.

He added that the Perth-based company, which opened an office in Fife earlier this year, has “considerable expansion plans” in Scotland. “The initial team is in place and ongoing recruitment will see sustained growth to cement our position as one of the largest and most progressive independent insurance brokers in the country.”

In September last year, Insurance Times revealed that Watson had quit Giles after a year in his last role. His exit followed a number of departures from the Giles senior team. Giles refused to comment.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
