Brokers have greatly improved their online presence over the past two years, a survey of 250 brokers has revealed.

London business research company Kadence found that 92% of brokerages have external email, up from 88% two years ago, 53% have information-only websites, up from 43%, and 30% have an intranet, up from 25%.

Some 13% have a website that allows online transactions, which was more than double the 1999 result of 6%. The same proportion (92%) of brokers are using the internet to send and receive email but more are buying products and services online (44% compared to 33% in 1999).

However, the number of brokers using the internet for recreation has dropped from 61% to 51% and the number using it to search for business information dropped from 78% to 76%.
