Danny Walkinshaw looks at the latest insurance stories online

Last week’s industry gathering in Monte Carlo produced a stream of online news as the reinsurance community came together at the annual Rendez-Vous.

Insurance Times and its sister title Global Reinsurance kept readers well informed of events in the French Riviera with the latest news and round-up of all the major topics from the conference. This included “Monte Carlo Special: reading between the lines”, a story that focused on the views of senior figures from across the market on what will affect pricing in the next year.

Another highlight was coverage of the Global Reinsurance Forum, a group launched in Monte Carlo by leading reinsurers.

The most popular story on our site this week, however, was a report that insurer RSA was considering a deal to buy the Latin American businesses of AIG and the restructured insurance business of Fortis. It came amid talk of a £600m rights issue, expected to be completed soon.

Also striking a chord was the report “One hell of a ride”, our interview with Lex Baugh on AIG and life in the headlines. It received a mass of traffic as visitors flocked to read the story online before it was published in last week’s issue.

The new Fantasy Football season is now underway on insurancetimes.co.uk. Anticipation reached fever pitch as managers logged on to make last-minute changes before the weekend’s fixtures. They then returned in droves on Monday to check results.?A tad premature, however; there is still a long way to go!
