Open Road

A Which? customer survey on breakdown providers has ranked the AA as the best provider of roadside assistance.

The AA received a Which? score of 73%, closely followed by Saga Breakdown (72%) and Aviva (71%). The AA and Saga Breakdown were also highlighted as Which? Recommended Providers.

Almost 7,000 people responded to the survey, answering questions on response time, cost and the ability to repair a vehicle at the side of the road.

The provider with the best performance for responding in under 60 minutes was Saga Breakdown, with 92% of Saga mechanics arriving at the vehicle in under an hour. The worst performer was Allianz Global Assistance who only responded within an hour on 65% of callouts.

Roadside repairs

The AA ranked top for roadside repairs, getting 71% of vehicles back on the road, while Autonational Rescue ranked bottom, repairing only 45% of its vehicles on the roadside.

AA chief executive Andrew Strong said: “To come convincingly top and, for the eighth successive year, hold a Which? accolade is great testament to the service our patrols and call centre employees provide.

“We continuously look to improve our fix rates and, in the last year alone, we have invested around £15m in patrol training, equipment, technology and vehicles.”
