Zurich has warned its clients to check their policy wordings, as some may not be covered for claims from the recent rioting.
Zurich UK general insurance chief executive Stephen Lewis said: "There are suggestions that riot and civil unrest are not covered by personal, commercial and public sector insurance policies.
"Our customers are encouraged to review their policies as there are many types of policies which do cover riots and civil unrest."
The insurer's priority was to help its customers, he added.
