Our senior reporter has had a busy week of news, events and prepping for some live TV action at this week’s Biba conference

Wednesday
I get up in a bit of a haze after the previous night’s Insurance Times Claims Excellence awards. I manage to clear my head in time for work and later head over to a Brokerbility event in the slightly surreal garden room of the Barbican Centre - imagine a huge greenhouse, but three floors up. And full of brokers and insurers. The broker alliance certainly picks interesting venues for its bashes: the previous two were at the Globe Theatre and deep underground at the Cabinet War Rooms.

Thursday
Today it’s online news stories and pieces for the print magazine, as well as preparing for the Biba conference in Manchester. Interesting news includes Zurich’s Q1 results and SSP transferring the book of business from Keychoice Underwriting to Towergate Underwriting.

Friday
My Global Reinsurance colleague Lauren Gow talks us through the finer points of being a video presenter ahead of the Biba conference, where the Insurance Times team will be carrying out several live interviews on camera on our stand. After spending several years in Murdoch’s employ at Fox Sport before joining Global Re, she should know.

Monday
I’m working on a few stories ahead of our print deadline tomorrow, but I visit Groupama’s London offices in the afternoon to meet members of the insurer’s claims team.

Tuesday
After a few hours spent putting the magazine to bed for the week, we all get on the train and head up to Manchester. It should be a great few days.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
