It’s all fine wines and high winds this week for our roving head of content

Wednesday
It’s an early start as I’m off to AXA’s wine chateau in Bordeaux. I sneak in a quick run in the French countryside before a magnificent wine and cheese tasting session. Then it’s off to a five-star meal, served up with the local wines.

Thursday
Up early and it’s off to an update session with AXA on its commercial division’s strategy. All the team look distinctly perky, despite last night’s wine. The flight back to Gatwick is a bit rocky, thanks to winds from our lovely April weather.

Friday
Standard & Poor’s slashes Spain’s rating - bad news for Spanish insurers. The markets shrug it off with a sense of déjà vu.

Monday
Senior reporter Sam Barker tells me Admiral has just reduced his premium, despite his upping his annual mileage from 3,000 to 5,000. Perhaps Admiral knows who he works for.

Tuesday
It’s press day and a toss-up between Zurich and Towergate for the lead story.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
