Company history:
Established in 1966, Provident (then trading as Halifax Insurance Company) was bought
by Provident Financial in 1978. Subsequently, it has undergone two further name changes – in November 1992 to Halifax Insurance, and in March 1994, when the new name, Provident Insurance, brought it in line with its parent company.

Much of Provident's success is due to its specialisation as an insurer of female motorists. As early as 1985, Provident recognised that female motorists represent a better risk than male motorists. Since then it has introduced specialist female-oriented policies and discounts while still maintaining products and services that appeal to both sexes
