’The plugin provides a valuable testing ground to help us understand how customers engage with conversational AI and how these tools could shape future insurance journeys,’ says managing director

Ageas has launched direct car insurance quoting on ChatGPT for customers through its Esure brand.

The insurer has developed an in-house plugin that allows motorists to obtain an Esure quote through a conversational journey within ChatGPT.

Customers answer a series of questions before receiving a quote, with the process designed to take a few minutes. They can then move to the Esure website to purchase the policy, amend cover or select additional options.

Jonathan Price, managing director of direct at Ageas UK, said: “We’re constantly exploring new ways to make insurance easier and more accessible, giving customers the freedom to engage with us through the channels that work best for them.

“Launching Esure within ChatGPT marks another important step in that continued journey, offering customers a simple and convenient way to get a car insurance quote on their terms.”

’Making insurance easier’

Ageas said the launch responds to changing consumer behaviour as more people use AI assistants to research and compare products online.

Research from YouGov, cited by Ageas, found one in five people who search online now start with an AI assistant when seeking answers to specific questions.

A quarter of AI search users also said they use the technology to compare options before making a decision.

Price said: “We’re excited to roll this new offering out to customers.

”The plugin provides a valuable testing ground to help us understand how customers engage with conversational AI and how these tools could shape future insurance journeys.

“The insights we gain will help us continue improving how we serve customers and make insurance easier right across our business.”
