Sabre specialises in standard and non-standard private motor insurance and also provides cover for small commercial vehicles and taxis. Sabre works exclusively through intermediaries.
Company history:
Sabre began life as an underwriting agency in 1983 and opened for business as an insurance company in its own right in 1991.
In 1996, the company was sold to General Accident, which subsequently merged firstly with Commercial Union and then with Norwich Union. The BDML Group acquired Sabre from Norwich Union in 2002. Since then Sabre has made record profits for two years running and significantly increased its net assets to more than £30m.
The BDML Group, which is privately owned, has a number of insurance interests, including BDML Connect, a major personal lines insurance intermediary; Ultimate, a claims handling and broker services company, and Thornside, a pet healthcare specialist.
